NEWS RELEASE
STATE PATROL
*************************
The Colorado State Patrol, in coordination with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), is advising those weekend warriors traveling to the high country and other road users traveling toward Denver about a planned closure on eastbound Interstate 70, that could impact their travels.
On Sunday, March 13, 2022, the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at Exit 147 (Eagle Interchange) will be closed starting at 8 a.m., and will remained closed for approximately three hours as crews recover an overturned semi involved in a previous crash.
A detour has been establish for eastbound traffic. All vehicles will be required to exit Interstate 70 at Exit 147 and take a detour onto eastbound U.S. Highway 6 for approximately 10 miles where travelers can merge back onto eastbound Interstate 70 at Wolcott.
The Colorado State Patrol is asking travelers to plan accordingly and expect their commute will be longer than normal if traveling in the area at the time of the closure. We know traffic, especially when it impacts our personal lives, can cause stress and agitation while on the road, which then become a safety concern. "When driver's get stressed, rushed, or agitated, we know that is the time when mistakes and crashes happen," says Sergeant Troy Kessler of the Colorado State Patrol. "Slow down, take a deep breath, enjoy the views, and drive with consideration for others. After all, that's what you want, right?"
Be safe, enjoy this wonderful state and it beauty and fun, and be thankful for the crews keeping these roads safe for you.
