We will be discussing Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery.
On Friday, June 11, you can join your favorite librarians for the third episode of our monthly, interactive book club. Each month, we'll spend 30 minutes to an hour chatting about a different book. Even better, YOU can participate! Read the book, send us your thoughts, and then listen in as we share our thoughts and perspectives.
Sign up for our new monthly Book Chatter Newsletter to get extra information, reading suggestions and more.
New episodes drop on the 2nd Friday of the month at 8 am.
Twisted Minds: A Look into the Madness of Serial Killers with Author Richard Estep
Wednesday, June 16, 7 to 8 pm, via WebEx
Join us for a look into the phenomenon of the serial killer: their history, methods, and psychology. Few topics have focused the public’s interest like serial killers, but while they have been the subject of countless books and movies, fundamental questions remain. Are they created by their nature or by their environment? What if anything do they have in common? Can a study of their methodologies tell us anything about their psychology and motivations? Guided by well-known local author Richard Estep who has written his first book looking exclusively at serial killers, we invite you to learn about this fascinating issue. Richard's latest book is “Serial Killers: The Minds, Methods, and Mayhem of History’s Most Notorious Murderers,” and was published in April by Visible Ink Press.
Registration is required and will open on Tuesday, June 1 at 10am via Eventbrite. Reservations are limited to 100 people. Participants will receive directions on how to join the WebEx meeting in the confirmation email.
Deep Thoughts Philosophy Reading Group
Monday, June 28, 7 to 8:30 pm, via Zoom
Meets every Fourth Monday of the Month, from 7 to 8:30 pm, via Zoom
This group meets monthly to discuss a classic short work of philosophy or an excerpt from a longer work.
Participants read the work prior to our meeting, and together we explore the meaning of the text and the value it offers us. All participants are welcome, including those who are unable to read the entire selection before the meeting.
Sessions are facilitated by Dawn Jacobs and other graduate students of the Philosophy Outreach Program of Colorado at CU Boulder (POPCO).
Facilitators will focus on encouraging and guiding a group discussion/learning event rather than on teaching.
Open to adults and older teens aged 16+.
For links to online versions of the texts, reading guides, and other resources, please view the shared Google doc.
Registration is required for each meeting and limited to 24 participants. Participants will receive directions for joining the Zoom meeting in their confirmation emails.
