There are so many unprecedented aspects to 2020, but one of the most impactful might be the political polarization our country is experiencing going into this presidential election and what that means for our news consumption. Separating the false from the true and the spin from the fact gets harder and harder. Independent journalist and University of Colorado data journalism instructor Sandra Fish can help you cut through the political spin during the election season in “Being an Informed Voter in 2020,” an online program offered through the Longmont Public Library, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24 via Webex. Fish will discuss mis/disinformation in news and social media — why it's there and how to spot it — along with tools to help locate accurate, reliable info on issues and candidates we'll be voting on in November.

Fish is a Colorado data journalist specializing in politics. She’s a 2020 First Draft fellow working on disinformation, and also writes about campaign finance for the Colorado Sun with funding from the Colorado Media Project. Her work has appeared on Colorado Public Radio, KUNC, Al Jazeera America, Roll Call and more. She teaches data journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder and worked as a full-time instructor there for eight years.

The program is free, but registration is required. Once registered, attendees will be sent information to join the program. Learn more and register at http://bit.ly/LibPrograms#voter. Patrons without internet access or an email address may call 303-651-8472 to register by phone.
