NEWS RELEASE
LONGMONT MUSEUM
*************************
Discovery Days at the Longmont Museum is an early childhood program that encourages children ages 2 to 6 and their parents or caregivers to engage together in educational, hands-on art activities.

Our theme next week (November 17, 18, & 19) will be Thanksgiving & Giving Thanks!

Here is a preview of what we can make in Discovery Days next week!

Picture shows from top left to bottom right: Handprint painted turkey with glued on feathers, construction paper tree collage with "things you're thankful for" written on it, stamped with leaves, a paper leaf "wreath," and a orange and brown paper slice of pumpkin pie with cotton ball dollop of whipped cream.

Each week, Ms. Leigh prepares a variety of themed arts and crafts activities for you and your child to explore materials and creation techniques. Next week, November 17, 18, & 19 we will:
  • Increase hand eye coordination by using leaf stamps
  • Practice pencil grip by drawing lines with markers and painting
  • Work on our cutting skills by cutting a variety of paper
  • Increase dexterity by cutting small pieces of paper
  • Practice pinching and placing pieces
Sensory experiences you may encounter:
  • Sticky glue on fingers
  • Sticky tape on fingers
  • Soft feathers
  • Soft & squeeky cotton balls
  • Wet paint on hands
  • Wearing an apron to keep clean while painting
  • Wearing a face covering/mask in the classroom
  • And as always, you can expect variety of noises and voices in the classroom: some joyful, some loud, some quiet, and some just learning how to navigate this world.

See you at the Museum!

Recyclable Donations

We are looking for specifically: cylinders with plastic lids (like oatmeal or mixed nuts containers) for this spring's Musical Instruments week (think, "things to make drums!")

Also, as always, we are accepting: toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, and especially plastic grocery bags.
