Boulder County has launched an innovative new program that simplifies the process of adopting clean energy products such as heat pumps and solar panels. The program provides residents with easy access to transparent and informative online evaluation tools, allowing them to make better decisions regarding their energy needs.
In partnership with EnergySage, the nation’s leading marketplace for clean energy and energy-saving solutions, this initiative has the potential to revolutionize the way residents shop for and purchase clean energy products and services.
People in Colorado and across the country are increasingly choosing to heat and cool their homes with highly efficient heat pumps, rather than relying on less efficient fossil-fuel based systems.
In 2022, heat pump sales outpaced gas-powered purchases for the first time, and for good reason. Heat pumps are a great way to reduce environmental impacts and lower energy bills without sacrificing comfort. However, it can be difficult for people to understand how heat pumps work, what’s best for their homes, what they should pay, and who to hire for the installation.
The Heat Pump Marketplace from EnergySage allows homeowners to easily explore heat pump solutions, compare costs, and request quotes from local contractors; all at no-cost and with objective, expert guidance provided along the way.
“Making the switch to clean energy products like heat pumps or solar can be daunting, but with this program, it doesn't have to be,” said Zachary Swank, Boulder County deputy director of sustainability, climate action and resilience. “I used the EnergySage Marketplace myself last month to find local contractors and compare costs for my own home heat pump installation. The free, user-friendly platform, as well as the support I got from EnergySage’s independent Energy Advisors, were instrumental in helping me make informed decisions about my energy needs and budget, while also helping local installation companies find potential customers and grow their businesses.”
Using the EnergySage Heat Pump Marketplace is simple and straightforward:
- Go to heatpumps.energysage.com to create an account
- Answer a few questions about your home (size, current heating and cooling system, etc)
- Browse prescreened heat pump installers in you area
- Schedule in-home consultations and review your customized quotes
- Get help from your dedicated Energy Advisor in evaluating your options
“We're thrilled to assist Boulder County residents in meeting their clean energy goals,” said Tess O’Brien, vice president of partnerships at EnergySage. “Heat pumps are a smart choice for Colorado homeowners since they are two to three times more efficient than conventional heating and cooling systems that are more commonly used in the state. Moreover, eligible homes can benefit from thousands of dollars in federal tax credits and rebates under the Inflation Reduction Act, making the return on investment of installing heat pumps even more substantial, on top of being better for the environment.”
Boulder County residents can also expand their clean energy options with EnergySage's Solar Marketplace, which provides quotes for rooftop solar and battery storage. The Solar Marketplace operates much like the Heat Pump Marketplace, offering easy-to-use tools to compare prices and options. Pairing a heat pump system with solar panels can maximize savings and protect against rising electricity prices.
