Contacting your Longmont Public Library staff just got easier. The new “Text-a-Librarian” service allows patrons to use the text message feature of their mobile phones to send questions to and receive answers from Longmont Public Library staff. Users only need a mobile phone enabled to send and receive text messages. It’s easy to use and easy to get started – just text “Start” to 720-466-7887, follow the prompts, and save the number for future reference.

Users can text questions to Library staff at any time during business hours. Staff will respond as soon as possible during those hours. Questions sent outside of service hours receive an automated response and will be answered the next service day. Some keywords will trigger automated information responses even outside of business hours.  For example, a user can text "hours" to this service at any time and receive an immediate text with the Library's current hours.  Spanish-speaking librarians are available, but responses may be slightly delayed based on staff schedules.

This is not a third-party customer service application; all texts are received and answered by actual Library staff. The Library warns that some text messages can be delayed or even fail due to problems with the connections between different telephone carriers. Also, while the Library does not charge for this service, standard text and data rates from cell phone providers may apply, and the Library cannot assume any responsibility for those charges.
