NEWS RELEASE

BOULDER COUNTY PARKS AND OPEN SPACE

*************************

Parks and Open Space will celebrate national Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 24, with several volunteer work projects on Boulder County parks and a "Welcome to Your Public Lands" pull-out-and-save publication in local papers Sunday, Sept. 18.

Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, National Public Lands Day is traditionally the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits.

Register today for two projects that still need help!

National Public Lands Day Volunteer Trail Work at Mud Lake

Celebrate the day by helping to improve one of Boulder County's most scenic trails!

Mud Lake combines the beauty of a high-altitude reflective pool with a nearby forest. In collaboration with Boulder County Open Space staff, volunteers will work on a trail construction project to to improve a section of trail around Mud Lake to meet the U.S. Forest Service's Trail Accessibility Guidelines. By the end of the project, the goal is to have a completed section of wheelchair-accessible trail. This project will help to create a more inclusive trail experience and improve recreational opportunities for trail users of all abilities. Join fellow community members in getting a good workout, learning about the rich history of Mud Lake, and creating a legacy. Learn more and register.

National Public Lands Day/Bike-Your-Park Lobo Trail Clean Up

Join this fun family friendly event! Sept. 24 also happens to be National Bike Your Park Day, so take advantage of the beautiful LoBo trail to do some riding and clean up the trails! The group will start from the Left Hand Valley Grange in Niwot and slowly ride bikes along the LoBo trail and pick up trash along the way. Walkers are welcome, too! Learn more and register.
