The Longmont Senior Center is excited to partner with the History Colorado Center in Denver to offer two fascinating lectures this fall. In lieu of taking a trip to the museum, we hope you will join us on Zoom for one or both of these programs.

Richard Bell: Hamilton, the Founders, and Democracy

Not only is it everyone’s favorite musical, "Hamilton" says plenty about how we think — and how *we think* the founders thought — about democracy. University of Maryland historian Richard Bell reads between the lines and tells us how it all comes together in Lin Manuel Miranda’s Broadway blockbuster. Bell is associate professor of history at the University of Maryland. He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Juston Cooper: Justice & Democracy

Juston Cooper, deputy director of the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition, talks about what democracy actually means once you’ve been incarcerated. A Denver native, Cooper received his bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University and holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver. Having been directly impacted by the criminal legal system himself, Cooper believes it’s essential to understand the systemic issues and barriers that contribute to oppressing communities in order to truly promote public health and safety.
