NEWS RELEASE
COLORADO STATE PATROL
*************************

Expect more State Troopers working the roads Aug. 8, 2023, as they conduct surge patrols in Larimer County looking for unrestrained drivers in efforts to reduce injuries in the event of a crash. As of July 20, 2023, the Colorado State Patrol Troop 3C office has investigated five crashes this year where people died, and 42 crashes where people were injured from no or improper restraint use.

I-25 in Larimer County leads roads with the most crashes (36), followed by highways 287 and 34 (15 each). Other roads in the county account for another 129 injury crashes.

“It is imperative that occupants in vehicles are wearing safety belts in the chance they are in a crash.” Master Trooper Cutler stated. “By being properly restrained, the odds of surviving a crash are greatly increased.”

Troopers will also be looking for careless driving habits which cause crashes. Speeding, following too closely, and drifting out of lanes are unacceptable, and dangerous for other drivers. Drivers need to make the effort to be a good driver.

In addition to the surge patrols, Troopers will be conducting child safety seat inspections. Nearly half of all child safety seats are installed improperly.

Call 970-224-3027 to schedule an appointment to get your car seat checked for free by certified technicians. Inspections will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the Colorado State Patrol Troop 3C office located at 3823 South I-25, Fort Collins.
