NEWS RELEASE
LONGMONT MUSEUM
*************************

Discovery Days (and this Discovery Days Weekly Newsletter) takes a break during the summer, so that I can teach Summer Camp. I know you will have a great summer, and I look forward to seeing our Discovery Days families again in the fall! Thank you so much for being a part of our Museum community!

If you are missing coming to the Museum this summer, please come check out the upcoming hands-on family-friendly exhibit "Tipi to Tiny House," opening June 11!

About the Tipi to Tiny House Exhibit:Throughout Colorado history, building a home has been a changing conversation between humans and their environment—and has led to shelters of many shapes, sizes, and materials. In this family-friendly and interactive exhibit, visitors will explore, experience, and even builddifferent types of homes in our gallery: Tiny house, Log cabin, Shepherd’s wagon, Tipi and even a pillow fort!

Also, special guests Kid Connects in the Neighborhood return to Discovery Days for our last week, May 4, 5, & 6.

We will have some guests from Kid Connects in the Neighborhood who will be helping out with an activity and informing families about their services and how they may be able to offer help and resources to families.

Here is a small introduction to the organization, and they will tell us more during our classtime!

Introducing Kid Connects In the Neighborhood
A New Program Hosted by Mental Health Partners

Mental Health Partners (MHP) recognizes not all children attend a licensed childcare or daycare provider. Many children are being lovingly cared for by family friends, neighbors, or family members.

Kid Connects in the Neighborhood is here to support these children and their care providers by offering resources, screenings, referrals, and more!

Our theme next week (May 4, 5, & 6) will be Mothers' & Fathers' Day - Gift Making!
Here is a preview of what we can make in Discovery Days next week!

What Can You Expect at Discovery Days?
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays
9–10:15 am, 10:30–11:45 am, 12:30–1:45 pm

Each week, Ms. Leigh prepares a variety of themed arts and crafts activities for you and your child to explore materials and creation techniques.

Next week of May 4, 5, & 6 we will:

  • Increase hand eye coordination by stringing and beading
  • Practice pencil grip by drawing lines with markers and painting
  • Work on handskills by manipulating pipe cleaners and paper flowers
  • Enhance cutting skills by cutting paper, yarn, and plastic lacing

Sensory experiences you may encounter:

  • Sticky glue on fingers
  • Sticky tape on fingers
  • Wet paint on hands
  • Soft pipe cleaners
  • Wearing an apron or paint shirt to keep clean while painting
  • And as always, you can expect variety of noises and voices in the classroom: some joyful, some loud, some quiet, and some just learning how to navigate this world.

See you at the Museum!

Ms. Leigh
