Love where you live? Make it even better. Find out how during the library’s Volunteer Fair
The library’s fourth annual Volunteer Fair aims to connect some of those “thoughtful, committed citizens” with local organizations who need their help from now through Aug. 31.  This year’s Volunteer Fair has moved online but will still have dozens of participating nonprofits and volunteer groups from around the community available to share information about their work and answer questions. No registration is necessary; just visit the library’s website during the fair, peruse the list of participating, linked organizations, and discover how you can become a world-changer, too.

Protect yourself from West Nile virus
Mosquitos carrying West Nile virus have been found in Longmont. The mosquito-borne West Nile virus can cause serious illness, even death. Protect yourself by using DEET or an alternative, dressing in long sleeves and long pants, staying inside from dusk to dawn, and draining standing water. Longmont contracts for citywide monitoring, and spraying is used when mosquitoes that carry West Nile exceed thresholds. To stay informed and to add your name to the notification or shutoff lists, visit LongmontColorado.gov/WestNile.

Save on your business utility bill
To save money, you first have to understand where you’re spending it. Help your organization master that first step with “How to Read My Utility Bills,” a free virtual workshop for Longmont businesses at 8 a.m. Sept. 3. The event will help you navigate rate structures, seasonal changes, types of service and more for your Xcel Energy natural gas bill and your city of Longmont utilities (electric, water, wastewater, NextLight), and will include money-saving tips and efficiency options. To learn more and register, email [email protected] or call 303-651-8416.
