Play Day of the Dead Mexican bingo
After a lengthy hiatus, the library’s popular bilingual family program “¡Lotería Mexicana!” returns virtually via Webex just in time for Day of the Dead celebrations. Families are invited to play a few rounds of traditional Mexican bingo from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 using special Day of the Dead game boards provided by the library. This bilingual program is free, but registration is required. For details and to register, visit bit.ly/LibKids.

Celebrate Day of the Dead virtually
We can’t gather for the usual festival, but you can celebrate Day of the Dead from home with all the performances you love. Performers include Las Dahlias singing Mexican trio, Grupo Folklorico Mexico Lindo dance, mariachi, poetry by bicultural community leader Laura Soto, and much more. Tune in from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday on the Longmont Museum’s Facebook page, Longmont Public Media.org, and local Comcast channel 8/880.

Businesses: Turn on your lighting bonus
If you’re saving energy on your lights, don’t forget to save money, too. Time is almost up for Longmont businesses to claim a 25% rebate bonus from Efficiency Works for new LED lighting fixtures. To earn the bonus, the work must be preapproved and completed and you must submit the documentation for payment by Nov. 15. Find out more at EfficiencyWorks.org/Business/Rebates

Ice Pavilion opens No. 20
The Longmont Ice Pavilion in Roosevelt Park at 725 Eighth Ave., will open on Nov. 20, weather permitting. Public ice skating, drop-in hockey, skating lessons and private facility rentals are available by reservation only. You can make online reservations for open skate and learn-to-skate lessons beginning Nov. 6. Youth hockey league registration for ages 5 to 18 is ongoing. For more information and to make your reservation, visit LongmontColorado.gov/ice-pavilion or call 303-651-8404.

Falling leaves, sweeping streets
As the leaves fall, city staff and contractors hit the streets in force to sweep them up. The street sweeping routes and operations are designed to not interfere with trash collection and to ensure that bike lanes are swept as well. It also is standard practice to sweep snow routes following snowfall. You can find maps that show the estimated schedule of citywide fall sweeping at LongmontColorado.gov/street-sweeping. Call 303-651-8416 for more information.

Dickens Farm Nature Area granted parks and trails award
Longmont’s Dickens Farm Nature Area has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the “Parks and Trails” award for a large community given out by the Colorado chapter of the American Public Works Association. This newest nature area in Longmont’s parks system opened to the public in the spring, but the spread of COVID-19 canceled grand opening plans. The lack of ceremony proved not to matter though, as visitors flocked to Dickens Farm to enjoy fresh air, water access, and time with family and friends.
