Get the Flood Facts!

Just one inch of water can cause $25,000 of damage to your home. Did you know... Flood insurance is required for properties with mortgages in FEMA mapped 100-year floodplains, but is available for any property, regardless of whether it is located in a mapped floodplain. Do NOT wait for flood damage to occur. There is a 30-day waiting period before flood insurance takes effect. Most standard homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover flood damage. Longmont community members are eligible for 25% off flood insurance premiums. Visit the Flood Info webpage to learn more!

Water line flushing schedule

Each spring, the City of Longmont water staff flushes the main water lines to keep water quality at its highest level and to ensure that fire hydrants are operational. The 2023 dates for the flushing program are scheduled for Monday, April 24 through Friday, May 19 (dates subject to change.) Residents may notice low water pressure, discolored water or no water for short periods of time when flushing is taking place in their neighborhood. All water is safe to use and to drink. Find out when your neighborhood will have its water lines flushed by visiting the Water Line webpage or call 303-651-8416.

Make energy benchmarking faster and easier

Colorado now requires large businesses of 50,000 square feet or more to benchmark their energy use. Make it easy for yourself by getting help at one of Longmont’s upcoming data jams. Experts from Longmont Power & Communications and Xcel Energy will help you automate your utility data uploads! Sign up now at the Longmont Power Eventbrite page for a May 17 Zoom session from 9-11 a.m. or for a May 24 in-person session from 2-4 p.m. at the Longmont Museum. There is no charge for either event; all participants at the live event should bring a laptop.

Stay safe — call before you dig!

Spring is a popular time to dig into yard work and construction projects … but if you’re not careful, you could dig right into a utility line! Remember, Colorado law requires you to call 811 at least three business days before you do any excavation work, so that all utilities in the area can be notified and mark their lines with paint or flags. Breaking a utility line can be expensive and even dangerous for services like power or gas lines, so always remember to call before you dig! For more information, go online to the Longmont website and search the keyword “811.”

Sandstone Visitors Center open

The Sandstone Ranch Visitors Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive, is a historic property first homesteaded in 1860 by the Coffin family. The Visitors Center is now open for the season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. Monday hours begin May 1. Admission is free; donations welcome! Learn more at the Sandstone webpage.
