Hispanic Heritage Month celebration
Join the Longmont Library Children’s and Teens’ Librarians to celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. Climate Action Sunday: Watch your waste
Designed to engage, inform, and equip people with practical ways to help make a difference on climate change, Climate Action Sundays feature information tables, kids activities and a panel discussion featuring experts who will provide the latest information on air quality, waste management, energy and water. Hard to Recycle Event
Do you have old items hanging around your house that you don’t know how to get rid of? Bring them to the City’s Hard to Recycle Event, from Oct. Oct. 31 – Nov. 11 at Green Girl Recycling, 21 S. Sunset St. Some examples of accepted items include flat screen TVs, computer monitors, cell phones, cameras, DVD players, hard-covered books, ceramic toilets and sinks and more. Free caregiving for young children class
Join early childhood mental health professionals from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Longmont Library for this free course that covers how to think about discipline as a learning opportunity to build skills and support childhood development. Participants will review the developmental reasons for challenging behaviors for children younger than 5 years old, and present skills and techniques for how to manage these challenging behaviors. This is [Not] Who We Are film screening
While it has a unique history, Boulder is emblematic of liberal, white, university-based communities that profess an inclusive ethic but live a segregated reality. This is [Not] Who We Are shares the voices of Boulder’s African-American community and shows both how deeply the roots of institutional racism are embedded and how to open pathways for dialogue, insight and change. Ice Pavilion: Learn to skate, join team!
Skate with us in 2022! The Longmont Ice Pavilion, 725 8th Ave., is a seasonal outdoor full-service ice rink facility, offering public ice skating, hockey, skating lessons and private facility rentals. Registration for winter learn-to-skate and adult hockey skills classes is ongoing. There are limited spots available and classes fill quickly. Already an experienced skater? We are now hiring assistant hockey coaches, learn-to-skate instructors, and skate guards. Training begins in early November with the Ice Pavilion season running Nov. 18 through March 9, 2023. Halloween Storytime and Trick-or-Treat Parade
Join the Longmont Librarians for a not-so-spooky Halloween Storytime for all ages starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31! Costumes are encouraged, but not required. After about 30 minutes of stories, songs and dancing, participants can parade through the Civic Center (building next to the Library on Kimbark Street) hallway for treats courtesy of City of Longmont staff.
November ballot information
This November, City Council will be asking Longmont voters to approve the issuance of $20 million in storm drainage bonds to finance the next phase of the Resilient St. Vrain Project (RSVP). The RSVP is a multi-year project to fully restore the St. Vrain Greenway and improve the St. Vrain Creek channel to protect people, property and infrastructure from future flood risks. Additionally, voters will be asked to consider two changes to the Charter and one City Council At-Large position. One charter amendment would provide operational clarity and streamlining, and the other would allow for simultaneous elections. City board/commission: Make a difference!
The City Council has opened their bi-annual recruitment to fill vacancies on City boards and commissions. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard and take a more active role in your community. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.
