Main Street closures support businesses
Closures in both northbound and southbound lanes on Longmont’s Main Street have been in place since July 6. The closures, which include the parking stalls and adjacent lanes, will be monitored continuously but could be in place until mid- to late-September. Northbound lanes are closed from north of Second Avenue to Sixth Avenue. Southbound lanes are closed from south of Sixth Avenue to Fourth Avenue. The closures allow restaurants and retailers to expand outdoor dining and shopping, as well as offer opportunities for Main Street visitors to enjoy the expanded outdoor space.

Tight times? LEAP into utility bill help
If you’ve fallen behind on home energy bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, or LEAP, can help keep the lights on and the air-conditioning running. Qualifying households can get assistance making their payments from LEAP or from Energy Outreach Colorado’s Bill Payment Assistance Program. Learn more at EnergyOutreach.org/programs or call 866-432-8435.

Park shelter update
As part of the COVID-19 response, the Parks Division and Recreation Services are not accepting new park shelter reservations. Unless a previous reservation is in place, shelters are first-come, first-served for the remainder of the year. No more than 10 individuals may be on a playground or in a shelter area at one time. Individuals who reserved a shelter in 2020 are being contacted individually regarding their reservation. Visit bit.ly/city-services or call 303-651-8404 or 303-774-4364 for more information regarding Longmont parks and amenities.

Fight the bite
The mosquito-borne West Nile virus can cause serious illness, even death. Protect yourself by using DEET or an alternative, dressing in long sleeves and long pants, staying inside from dusk to dawn, and draining standing water. Longmont contracts for citywide monitoring from May through October, and spraying is used when mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus are detected and exceed thresholds. To stay informed about monitoring results, the spraying schedule, and things you can do to prevent West Nile virus, visit LongmontColorado.gov/WestNile.
