Library reopening delayed due to structural repairs and remodeling

The reopening of the Longmont Public Library has been delayed, and this time, it isn’t because of the novel coronavirus. A remodeling project uncovered cracks in building floor structure. For the long-term safety of the building, these cracks must be remedied prior to new carpeting being put down. No timeline is currently available for completion of the structural repairs, installation of the carpeting, and reopening of the Library building. Curbside Delivery service of library materials will continue during this time. Community members are encouraged to watch the Library’s social media pages and website for ongoing updates.

Special storytimes at the library next week

The “Music in Motion” storytime, offered in partnership with Integral Steps, will marry music, movement, and stories for preschoolers on Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon via Webex. Then, librarians Claire and Stephanie will host “Celebrating Black Voices” in honor of Black History Month on Feb. 26, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Webex. A reading list of other books by Black creators will also be supplied. Registration is required for both storytimes at bit.ly/LibStories.

County Line Road improvements project restarts

The city of Longmont and DeFalco Construction have started working again on County Line Road between Ninth and 17th avenues. This marks the start of the second phase of the project, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of May, weather permitting. Travelers should expect minor traffic impacts on the east side of County Line Road as work begins on ditch improvements. Intermittent lane closures should be expected and use of alternative routes is encouraged. Current project information and traffic impacts can be found on the project website at bit.ly/county-line-road-improvements. For more information, call 720-491-1167 or email [email protected]

Enjoy and support local music

In lieu of hosting the Winter Walkabout Music Showcase, the Longmont Creative District is emphasizing the importance of supporting local community, artists and small businesses this year, while still providing some fun, interactive programming. For information on donating to a musicians’ fund, hearing local music downtown or receiving a Random Act of Community, visit DowntownLongmont.com.
