Wilbourne McCollough, 85 years old of Loveland, Colorado was born August 27, 1937 in Hattisburg, Mississippi to Myles and Amanda (Hensarling) McCollough. He was called home to the Lord on May 31, 2023, at home in Loveland, CO, under hospice care surrounded by his family. Wilbourne was raised in Mississippi along with his brothers Lilbourne and Kennieth and sisters Bonnie and Colleen (died in childhood). Wilbourne graduated from Arkansas State University in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering.  He was a member of the ATO Fraternity.

After completing Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Wilbourne was recruited for an engineering program as part of the space race with Russia. He accepted a job with Boeing in Wichita, Kansas where he met Carol Alliston through mutual friends. They were married on June 10, 1960 at Sharon Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. Their marriage of almost 63 years was based on friendship, laughter and dedication to each other and their family.

Wilbourne and Carol moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1962 where Wilbourne took a job with Martin Mariettta subcontractor Trend Engineering and worked on the Titan Missile program. Wilbourne moved into a brief career in life insurance working for Colorado Western Securities earning the professional designation for Chartered Life Underwriter in 1970. Supported by Carol’s teacher’s salary, Wilbourne left the insurance business and discovered his true passion in construction while building his first family home in Littleton. During this time, Wilbourne and Carol attended Centennial Acres Southern Baptist and Arapahoe Road Baptist Church where they made many life-long friends including Robert and Jan Wells.

Wilbourne and Carol moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1972. Wilbourne met Jim Doherty and they formed McCollough-Doherty Construction Company. Together, they built quality custom homes in the Loveland area, primarily at Boyd Lake Shores.

Wilbourne and Carol were members of First Baptist Church in Fort Collins for many years where Wilbourne was a deacon. Together, they also volunteered with the Gideon’s International organization.

In 1980, Wilbourne joined Lloyd Jenkins at Lobar Construction in Fort Collins. While at Lobar, Wilbourne oversaw the construction of many restaurants, nursing homes and commercial buildings in Colorado, Nevada, and California.

After retirement in 2004, Wilbourne and Carol bought a second home in Naples, Florida where Wilbourne enjoyed golfing and lots of visits from his grandchildren to enjoy the pool and the beach.

Wilbourne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, boating on Boyd Lake and watching college and professional football. He is survived by his wife Carol, his brother Kennieth McCollough, son Mark (Shannon) McCollough of Breckenridge, daughter Susan (Brian) Shuyler of Broomfield, grandchildren Luke McCollough, and Benjamin and Dominic Shuyler, and many nieces and nephews.

Wilbourne was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Colleen McCollough, Bonnie Broadhead and his brother Lilbourne McCollough.

A celebration of his life will be held at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO on Saturday, June 24th at 1:00 with a reception to follow at the house.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud, SAINT Volunteer Transportation and The Denver Rescue Mission.
