Longmont’s municipal election day is November 2, 2021.  The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder will mail ballots to registered voters beginning October 11.  It is now time for eligible Longmont voters to bone up on the candidates.

I have observed one candidate as an incumbent council member for nearly four years. Aren Rodriguez has impressed me since he was first elected in 2017.

Without hesitation, I endorse Aren for a second four-year term. Throughout his first term, Aren has proven to be independent, fair-minded, thoughtful and even tempered.  These are valuable attributes I would like to see in all city council members. I frequently observe that Aren is a careful listener and questioner of staff and experts on important issues. He listens before he speaks. He seeks to make Longmont a welcoming, inclusive place for all residents.

For the past two years, Aren has been Mayor Pro Tem. Each time I have observed him filling the mayor’s position, he has demonstrated a calm demeanor and treated fellow council members and the public fairly and with the respect they deserve. Aren has earned not only my support, but the endorsement of the Sierra Club of Boulder County and Congressman Joe Neguse. Let’s put a deserving, experienced city councilman back in office. Re-elect Aren Rodriguez.
