Letter to the editor: Richard Lyons: There are three mayoral candidates, but only one will perform the duties for all

"Only Tim has the gravitas and presence to serve as the face of Longmont in the many ceremonial mayoral duties," Lyons said.

Our Charter sets forth the two duties for the mayor:  to preside over the council and to serve as the recognized head of government for ceremonial and legal
purposes. There are three candidates for mayor but only Tim Waters will perform these duties for the betterment of all.

As presiding officer, only Tim Waters can lead us into the post-pandemic era without being shackled to the failed agendas of the far left and right. Tim has developed a vision that is more balanced, inclusive, and responsible than the pre-pandemic policies advocated by the other candidates.

For example, Tim suggests that, in dealing with the RTD issue,  Longmont should explore other opportunities such as working with Amtrak to use federal infrastructure funds to build a line directly up I-25.  It’s time for our leaders to envision the future instead of re-hashing the past’s mistakes.

Secondly, only Tim has the gravitas and presence to serve as the face of Longmont in the many ceremonial mayoral duties.  His gregarious, friendly, and  warm personality is ideal for this.  Finally, Tim is the only moderate in this race and is not beholden to either the left or the right.  Vote for Tim!
