Boulder County has closed a number of parks and open space properties because of extreme fire danger.

The Bureau of Land Management also has temporarily suspended public access to all of the land it oversees  in Boulder and Larimer counties.

The closures are in step with the U.S. Forest Service closing a swath of its lands in Clear Creek, Jefferson, Gilpin, Boulder and Larimer counties.

In a news release sent Wednesday, Boulder County Parks & Open Space announced the following properties will be closed to the public until further notice:

  • Anne U. White
  • Bald Mountain
  • Caribou Ranch
  • Castle Rock climbing area
  • Grassy Top
  • Hall Ranch
  • Heil Valley Ranch
  • Hessie trailhead
  • Mud Lake
  • Reynolds Ranch
  • Sugarloaf Mountain.

Button Rock Preserve also will remain closed until further notice, the city of Longmont announced on Monday. And the city of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks also has closed the Fourth of July trailhead.

The Bureau of Land Management closure order, which was announced Wednesday, will be in place until Nov. 3 unless rescinded earlier.

“This unusual step is being taken due to concerns for public safety and to aid ongoing fire suppression operations.” Royal Gorge Field Manager Keith Berger stated in a news release. “We hope that this action is short lived, and we intend to rescind these restrictions as soon as possible.”

The closure order prohibits anyone from entering BLM-administered lands in the Royal Gorge Field Office in Boulder and Larimer counties unless escorted by an authorized BLM official, according to the release.
