On March 1, the League of Women Voters of Boulder County (LWVBC) will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the League of Women Voters organization and of the 19th Amendment.

The event is one of hundreds of celebratory and advocacy events all over the U.S. this year. The anniversary event, titled ”100 Years Strong,” will be from 3 – 5 PM at the Boulder JCC. Invitees include LWV Boulder County members and special guests, community partner organizations. Susan Marie Frontczak, Eleanor Roosevelt impersonator, will deliver a presentation called “Why the Vote Alone is Not Enough.”

The League of Women Voters (LWV) was founded in 1920 by women who had fought for and won the 19th Amendment, to help women exercise their new right to vote. The League has served as a credible non- partisan organization which prioritizes voter education, information, and policy research and advocacy.

However, the 19th Amendment only guaranteed the vote for white women. Today, the LWV of Boulder County and League chapters all over the U.S. work to “make democracy work for all”, preventing voter disenfranchisement and advocating for voting rights and other policies that empower all voters and defend democracy.

Most recently the LWV of Boulder County helped advocate for and win Colorado state policies on anti- gerrymandering and joining the National Popular Vote compact; and for local living wage, campaign finance and immigrant rights policies. It holds voter registrant trainings; registers voters; hosts candidate forums; and promotes more expressive voting methods. League researches and facilitates “community conversations” on climate change, money in politics and other critical issues affecting local community members. Its members
span a 70-year age range and diverse backgrounds.

In addition to the Eleanor Roosevelt impersonator, “100 Years Strong” will include a photo displays of League members profiled for the online She Is Me project, sponsor highlights, and fundraising to help LWV of Boulder County build capacity for voter engagement and advocacy for the next 100 years.
