Road/Bridge Construction

The road reconstruction project consisted of the creation of a 180-foot long steel truss bridge with a concrete and asphalt bridge deck. The bridge that washed away during the 2013 Flood was a 73-foot long concrete structure that was built in 1960. The new bridge is rated to withstand future 100-year flood events. The bridge/road project cost approximately $2.26 million to construct and is eligible for federal reimbursement. JUB Engineers assisted with project design and construction consultation and SEMA Construction, Inc. completed the work.

Creek Restoration

The 1.2-mile South St Vrain Creek Restoration project restored and improved the channel and surrounding floodplain utilizing natural system principles to protect life and property and provide a resilient, functioning, and ecologically rich stream system. The project will expedite recovery from the 2013 Flood and make the area more resilient in future flood events. The project design was led by Matrix Design Group, and the project was constructed by RMC Consultants. Planning, design, and construction costs totaled approximately $2.8 million, which was paid for through a combination of funds from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs’ Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery planning grant, the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Emergency Watershed Protection program, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and Boulder County.
