Supporting Action for Mental Health (SAM) is hosting free mental health trainings to Longmont residents.

SAM is "a movement of local community groups, organizations, faith communities, residents, and local government working together to explore how we all can raise awareness of and take action to address mental health needs in Longmont," according to the City of Longmont website.

"We currently have funding from The Colorado Health Foundation to provide this training at no cost for the Longmont community. Without the grant funding it would cost people $50/person to take the training so we want to make sure people know this opportunity is available and that time is running out," says Julie Phillips, City of Longmont project coordinator.

The purpose of the training is to provide, "essential training for anyone age 18 and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health related crisis or challenge," states a Mental Health First Aid flyer from the City of Longmont.

Boulder County receives grant to support expanded public engagement in transportation planning

Boulder County Transportation's Mobility for All (M4A) Program was recently awarded an Inclusive Planning Grant from the U.S. Administration for Community Living in partnership with the Federal Transit Administration and administered by the Community Transportation Association of America in the amount of $35,000.

According to a press release from Boulder County Transportation, "M4A was one of 12 recipients who will receive funds in this round of Transit Planning for All grant awards."

"M4A promotes accessible, affordable, and equitable, multimodal (transit, bike, ADA accessible, etc.) transportation options for older adults, people with disabilities and low-income families," states the press release.

"The grant money will be used to expand public engagement during the county’s update of its Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to ensure that the revised TMP is inclusive and responsive to residents’ needs. The public process portion of the TMP update will begin later in 2018. Visit www.BoCoTMP.com to learn more."

In addition to the grant, M4A is seeking "older adults, people with disabilities, and their caregivers from diverse backgrounds to serve on the Increase Accessibility Steering Committee," states the press release.

This committee will meet four times over the next six months. If you are interested in participating in this project, please contact M4A via email at [email protected] or call 720-564-2218.
