UCHealth Longs Peak celebrated their first birthday on Friday, August 31.

The hospital is located at 1750 E. Ken Pratt Blvd. in Longmont. According to a press release it is equipped with "a birth center with Level II special care nursery, an intensive care unit, four operating rooms, a Level III trauma center and emergency department, advanced cardiac services, 24/7 pharmacy and radiology and laboratory services."

Within the year the hospital "has introduced several new services that were not already offered in the community before, including bariatric surgery, nitrous oxide for pain management for laboring mothers, water birth capabilities, advanced telehealth services and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program to care for those who have been sexually assaulted," states a press release.

“It’s been an amazing first year,” said Dan Robinson, chief executive officer and president of the hospital. “We are honored to care for all of the patients who choose Longs Peak Hospital and Surgery Center, and we strive to provide an excellent experience for everyone, including family members and visitors.”

Boulder County Offers Diabetes Prevention Programs

The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging is hosting two classes on Diabetes Prevention in September. The program is nationally developed by the Centers for Disease Control. According to a Boulder County press release, "over the course of this year-long program, participants get the support they need to learn how to make changes that will last."

A few statistics on prediabetes are offered by the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging. Over 84.1 million adults in America suffer from prediabetes. "In Boulder County alone over 65,000 people have prediabetes. Ninety percent don’t even know they have it."

"Prediabetes occurs when your blood sugar is elevated, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. The bad news is that prediabetes increases your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The good news is that if you lose weight, adopt healthier eating habits, and become more active, you can cut your risk of getting Type 2 diabetes in half," according to the press release.

To enroll in the classes a diagnosis of prediabetes is required. To find out if you qualify, or for more information, please contact Melissa Pruitt at 303-441-3599, or [email protected].
