No growth of CalWood fire; full containment expected Saturday

Warmer temperatures on Tuesday prompted some snowmelt, but many sheltered areas of the fire are expected to have snow cover for several days.

Tuesday marked another day of minimal activity on the CalWood fire, which remains at 10,105 acres and is 76% contained as of Wednesday morning.

Warmer temperatures on Tuesday prompted some snowmelt, but many sheltered areas of the fire are expected to have snow cover for several days, authorities stated in a Wednesday morning post to the CalWood and Lefthand Canyon Fires Facebook page. Smoke will be visible through the day Wednesday, and flames mght be visible at night as fuels inside containment lines continue to burn in the coming days and weeks, the post stated.

Wednesday evening, command of the fire will be transferred from Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Black to a unified command of the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Fire Management, according to the post, which also will be the last written update for the fire “unless significant activity occurs.”

Full containment of the fire is expected Saturday, according to information posted on the InciWeb interagency information management system.

Temporary closures of Arapaho and Roosevelt national forest lands in Grand, Clear Creek, Jefferson, Gilpin, Boulder, and Larimer counties remain in place, as do the closures of multiple Boulder County Parks and Open Space properties.

The East Troublesome fire was burning 192,560 acres and was 20% as of Wednesday morning, and the Williams Fork fire stood at 14,749 acres and was 35% contained.
