No growth of CalWood fire overnight Friday, but expected containment date pushed back to Nov. 9

Previously, fire officials were anticipating containment on Saturday, according to information posted on the InciWeb interagency information management system.

Despite increased winds, there was no reported fire activity overnight Friday on the CalWood fire but the date at which containment is expected has been pushed back to Nov. 9, according to information posted on the InciWeb interagency information management system.

Containment was expected Saturday, according to information previously posted on InciWeb.

Windy conditions are expected again today and a flight is planned to identify more heat areas within the fire, according to a post on the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management website. “Firefighters will use that information to continue to mop-up isolated hot spots and work to further secure firelines using aircraft as needed,” according to the post.

Firefighters on Friday were successful in mopping up most of the heat on the south and east portions of the fire and on Saturday will continue to use the helicopter to help cool any hotspots on the uncontained northside of the fire along Colo. 7, according to the post.

Some smoke may be visible Saturday, according to the post.

Fire officials are asking people traveling along Colo. 7 Saturday to watch out for firefighters and equipment that will be working in the area.

Elsewhere in Colorado on Wednesday, the Cameron Peak fire that started Aug. 13 southwest of Red Feather Lakes in Larimer County stood at 208,663 acres and was 64% contained, according to InciWeb. The East Troublesome fire was burning 193,774 acres and was 37% contained as of Wednesday morning, and the Williams Fork fire stood at 14,833 acres and was 36% contained.
