On Friday, Dec. 7, the Community Neighborhood Resources department of the City of Longmont hosted a Peacemaker’s Gala at the Longmont Museum. The event was organized by Susan Spaulding, community communications specialist.

Spaulding wanted to throw a party to celebrate and recognize all the people and organizations in Longmont and Boulder County who work towards bringing peace to our community.

Among those invited to the event included: volunteer attorneys, volunteer mediators, Boulder County court judges, CORE and LEAD program organizers, community police, Police PEER support, Longmont Public Safety, Longmont City Council, police command staff and several city managers.

In addition to organizing the event to acknowledge these peacemakers, Spaulding wanted to showcase how peace takes many individuals to address and that no one department or section of government can tackle the issue alone.

“There are many ways to contribute to peace in the community,” states Spaulding. The individuals who contribute their time to endeavors such as the law clinic, the mediation program, CORE, LEAD, housing retention and community officers are just a few of the shining examples of the impacts these organizations can have on a community.

The gala was truly a night dedicated to fun and socialization. Spaulding invited the Jeremy Money band to play and she even graced the dance floor with her husband for several songs. For most of the evening, peacemakers enjoyed catching up and meeting new members of the peacemaking community.

Additionally, Susan Spaulding, Mayor Brian Bagley and Dan Benavidez all took a few moments to speak a few words of thanks to the contributions of this peacemaking community.
