Political Party Affiliation Deadline for Caucus Participation is Monday, January 8

Boulder County, Colo. –The deadline to register or for currently registered voters to either switch party affiliation or to change from an unaffiliated voter to the Republican or Democratic Party in order to participate in the March 6, 2018 Republican and Democratic Party precinct caucuses is Monday, January 8.

Voters can update their voter registration online at GoVoteColorado.com.

Voters who are already registered Republicans or Democrats but who have moved recently must update their residential address information by Monday, February 5, in order to participate in their precinct caucuses.

A Precinct Caucus is a neighborhood meeting conducted by the political parties, where affiliated voters may get involved in selecting delegates for their party’s County and State Assemblies. This is an important step in the democratic process, because the delegates will eventually elect county, state and congressional candidates to appear on the party’s June 26 Primary Election ballot, and also approve a party platform for 2018. In addition, registered voters who attend the Caucus may register to be an election judge for the upcoming elections.

Any registered voter who is affiliated with the Republican or Democratic Party may attend the caucus in their precinct for that party. Boulder County’s Republican and Democratic Party caucuses will be held in the evening on March 6 at schools, community centers, churches and other locations. In addition to caucus coming up, the Boulder County Elections Division would like to inform voters of the change regarding participation by unaffiliated voters in primary elections beginning this year. If you are an unaffiliated voter, you can either declare a ballot preference on your voter registration record or you will be sent ballots for all parties conducting a primary election. However, a voter may only vote and return one party’s ballot. If a voter returns multiple ballots, none of their votes will be counted.
