Roller derby - that fast and furious women's sport that involves roller skates, pads, helmets, and attitude - is making a big splash this weekend at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.

The "Thin Air Throwdown 2019" is an invitational tournament of roller derby matches and this year includes some of the top teams in the world. Co-hosted by the Boulder County Bombers and Denver Roller Derby, the Throwdown boasts a list of top-tier roller derby teams, including Gotham Girls, Victorian Roller Derby, Rose City Rollers, Roughneck Roller Derby, Oklahoma Victory Dolls, and the 10th Mountain Roller Dolls.

"These are some of the best teams in the country - and the world - we have Victorian from Australia here!," exclaimed Nancy Ramsdal, who volunteers for the Boulder County Bombers as a non-skating official. "It's rare to see these kinds of teams come to Colorado, and this weekend is a great chance to see some great derby in action," Ramsdal added.

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online or at the door.
