Seven engines, two 10-person crews and a helicopter are working Thursday to gain further control of the CalWood fire, which remains at 76% containment.
“Firefighters are using information from the infrared flight to develop a strategy to address isolated hot spots that may need further work within the fire perimeter. They are patrolling the fire and mopping up to further secure the fire as the snowy conditions allow,” according to an update posted at 12:18 p.m. to the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management website.
Containment remains at 76% because the uncontained portion of the fire is in steep rugged inaccessible terrain along Colo. 7, according to the post, which stated firefighters are assessing the effects of the weekend snow and developing strategies for that uncontained section.
Some smoke may be visible today, according to the post.
Full containment of the fire is still expected Saturday, according to information posted on the InciWeb interagency information management system.
Elsewhere in Colorado on Thursday, the Cameron Peak fire that started Aug. 13 southwest of Red Feather Lakes in Larimer County stood at 208,663 acres and was 64% contained. The East Troublesome fire was burning 193,774 acres and was 30% as of Thursday, and the Williams Fork fire stood at 14,833 acres and was 35% contained.
