The parking lot at Flagstaff Academy underwent a magical “Dragon Winter Lights” transformation, illuminated by a kaleidoscope of twinkling lights and creative holiday decorations adorning a fleet of cars.

This spectacle marked the school’s third annual event where cars turned into canvases for imaginative displays, inviting families and the local community to immerse themselves in a whimsical wonderland of seasonal cheer.

As visitors arrived at the parking lot, they were greeted by a mesmerizing sight — a towering candy cane illuminated by the radiant glow of twinkling lights. This colossal structure, backed by a fully extended tree-trimming truck transformed into a festive beacon, stands proudly at the entryway, setting the tone for the enchantment that awaits within.

Upon stepping into the lively event space, the air is filled with a purr-fect “Merry Cat-mas” vibe from the back of a pickup truck. The encircled parking lot is a bubbling display of Christmas festivity, with ornaments and decorations tailored for the holiday celebration. Amidst the laughter, chatter and upbeat modern Christmas music, each corner boasts unique and creative scenes that pay homage to the joyous spirit of the season.

The backs of SUVs serve as canvases for picturesque Christmas scenes, each display meticulously staged and adorned with an array of twinkling lights and vibrant decorations. Among these displays, a jeep stands tall, its exterior adorned with lights cascading down like a majestic Christmas tree. The vehicle beams with the radiance of the holiday season, capturing the essence of festive jubilation for all who wander through this dazzling array of holiday magic.

“It’s kind of like a trunk or treat but with lights instead of trick-or-treating and Halloween costumes,” Flagstaff Academy PTO Vice President Kate Silva said. “People set up their vehicles, create holiday-themed booths, and the competition between teachers for the best display creates a fantastic buzz.”

This event isn’t confined to just the school premises, it’s designed to involve the entire community. The Flagstaff PTO aims to engage everyone in Longmont by purposefully scheduling alongside other local holiday events, they hope to ensure a unified and enjoyable festive experience for all.

“While the number of displays remains similar each year, the creativity and size have expanded,” Flagstaff Academy PTO Secretary Jessica Drelles said. “Teachers are competing fiercely, coming up with more elaborate and creative displays each time. We welcome people from the neighborhood, and John’s candy cane display is something that draws attention from afar.”

The event’s charm is enriched by the diverse range of participants with an influx of new contributors like Girl Scout troops and members from the local community. Some families have been involved for a long time, while others are newcomers, creating a wonderful mix of established traditions and fresh, innovative ideas.

“The first year was a bit of a surprise for all of us. But as soon as everyone saw it come to life, it became an instant favorite. We’re building upon that initial idea, creating a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of the holidays,” Silva said.
