The St. Vrain Valley School District has named the new principal of Rocky Mountain Elementary School.

Kenneth Wildenstein will replace James Garcia, who has served as the school’s principal since 2018.

Wildenstein currently serves as principal of Stargate School in Thornton, and he’s set to begin his new job July 1.

The district’s Board of Education approved hiring Wildenstein during its regular meeting on Wednesday.

“I’m very grateful, I’m very honored, I’m very humbled for the opportunity,” Wildenstein told the board during the meeting. “Thank you, thank you, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart … I’m very excited for this and very honored to be serving the community in this capacity.”

Wildenstein is scheduled to meet the school’s staff next week.

“I’m really looking forward to getting engaged,” he said. “I know Rocky Mountain has some good things going, and I’m excited to learn what they’re doing and then add some things as we work together for continuous improvement for our students — and that’s really what it’s all about.”

Wildenstein earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Licensure from Regis University.

Wildenstein taught physical education in Jeffco Public Schools from 2007 to 2009, then served as a physical education teacher and athletic director for Flagstaff Academy Charter School in Longmont from 2009 to 2014. He then went on to serve as dean of students and athletic director at Weld Central Middle School in Weld County School District RE-3J from 2014 to 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he was principal of Union Colony Schools in Greeley School District No. 6.
