Rosemary Wells is a renowned American author and illustrator of children’s books including “Noisy Nora,” the Max and Ruby series, and “If You Believe in Me.” On Oct. 17 from 5-6 p.m. she will visit the Innovation Center, 33 Quail Rd, and host a literacy night with the district’s preschool-aged students.

"We are thrilled to welcome Rosemary Wells to our literacy night. Her commitment to early childhood literacy aligns perfectly with our goal to provide the best educational experiences for our preschool students. Through her recent book, 'If You Believe in Me,' Rosemary fosters the importance of every student having a hero who empowers them to have the strength to succeed. We hope this event will inspire a lifelong love for reading in our children and their families,” Shela Blankinship, director of Early Childhood Education at SVVSD.

During the event, Wells will read “If You Believe in Me” and lead a discussion about its themes. She will also talk about her creative process, according to a news release from SVVSD.

The event is a partnership between Wells and SVVSD to encourage early reading. As part of the partnership, SVVSD gave each preschool student within the district a copy of Well’s “If You Believe in Me.” The book is used as part of the SVVSD preschool curriculum. Preschool students have also used the book as part of a four-week reading challenge.

Families with preschool children are encouraged to attend the event. They can bring their copy of “If You Believe in Me” to be signed by Wells. The first 100 students without a copy of the book will receive one at the event, courtesy of SVVSD.

SVVSD is also working with Wells to create a Spanish version of the book. Families interested in this version of the book can sign up for a copy during the event.
