A small fire led to the temporary evacuation of Longs Peak Middle School on Wednesday morning.

Around 9:36 a.m., students and staff were evacuated from the building. According to an email sent out to parents by principal Sandy Heiser, a small fire was unintentionally ignited during class and quickly extinguished.

After ventilating the building of smoke, students and staff were cleared to re-enter the building by 10:10 a.m.

“We want to thank the Longmont Fire Department and our district maintenance team for their quick response and support,” Heiser said in the email. “I also want to commend our students for following all safety protocols and showing high levels of responsibility during the event.”
