Joie Siegrist receives McGuffey Award for 12 years of service on the SVVSD Board of Education

Joie Siegrist has served on the St. Vrain Valley Schools Board of Education for twelve years and was recently recognized for her leadership on the school board.

On Sept. 19, Siegrist received the McGuffey Award from the Colorado Association of School Boards. The award honors “board members who bring committed and passionate service to their board work,” the McGuffey Award website states.

Siegrist began her tenure on the school board in 2011 when she was appointed to a board seat. She was elected to a seat in 2015 and reelected in 2019. She will finish her tenure on the board in November.

In total, Siegrist has served on the SVVSD Board of Education for 12 years. A typical tenure is only eight years, but because of the appointment in 2011, Siegrist has been able to serve longer than most.

Superintendent Don Haddad said Siegrist’s service on the board has included three crises, a recession, a flood and a global pandemic.

“Most board members serve and go through one crisis in their tenure, Joie has served through three and everything in between. She has been an unwavering rock and has garnered the complete respect of students, staff, teachers and the administration,” Haddad said.

Siegrist also helped the school district get four ballot initiatives passed, two bonds and two mill levy overrides, Haddad said.

According to Haddad, Siegrist’s list of accomplishments while serving on the board is long but he has been more impressed with the way she served.

“She served in a way that has been incredibly productive, navigating a large school district with competing interests in a way that is incredible. She is selfless in her service and does it for the students, staff, teachers and the community,” he said.

The Leader reached out to Siegrist who did not want to shine a light on herself stating, “I prefer to not shine a light on myself as the work is about students and is done in cooperation with many wonderful individuals and teams.”

Despite not wanting the attention turned to her she did say, “I am grateful for the dedication of the current and previous boards of education in St. Vrain, as well as Don, Jackie, teachers, staff, students, families, and community members.”
