Jacqueline Weiss announces candidacy for 2023 SVVSD Board of Education representing District A

Jacqueline Weiss announced that she will run for the St. Vrain Board of Education in District A in the November election.

District A has been represented by Joie Siegrist and is the largest district in the school district. It includes parts of northern Longmont, Hygiene, Lyons and extends into the mountain areas between Allenspark and Jamestown.

Weiss earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and a Master of Arts degree in teaching from Colorado College. She spent 12 years teaching in various K-12 schools as a band, choir, general music teacher, music director and department chair. In 2022, she was named Teacher of the Year at Sunset Middle School.

Her passion for teaching reaches beyond the classroom. She has coached a district-championship soccer team, sponsored various afterschool clubs and programs and acted as a grade-level advisor. She has also served on several leadership committees where she advocated for “the best possible education for all students” and for “more robust resources for schools and teachers,” Weiss said.

Weiss chose to run for the SVVSD Board of Education because she believes in “providing the best public education to all students and supporting teachers and school employees,” she said.

During her career as a teacher, she said she has learned how policies and school board actions affect learning and school culture.

“As such, school boards should focus on how to support students and teachers and their growth best. Strong schools help build strong communities and are the foundation of a better future,” she said.

Some of the areas Weiss hopes to work on as a school board member, if elected include focusing on students and learning, district wide safety and security, strong district finances, a high-functioning school board and community collaboration.
