On Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at approximately 3:56 p.m. the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 24-year-old male who had fallen approximately thirty feet to the ground while rock climbing just off the Longmont Dam Road, near the entrance to the Button Rock Preserve. A partner of the climber notified a Button Rock Ranger, who then radioed the accident to the Boulder County Communications Center. Rescue agencies were immediately dispatched to the call.
Lyons Fire Protection District and AMR stabilized the injured climber and then carried him approximately 100 feet to the AMR ambulance. Due to the nature of the fall and the apparent injuries sustained, an air ambulance, Med Evac II was requested to respond to the scene. The patient was transferred from the ground ambulance to the air ambulance and was then flown to a health care facility. The rescue took approximately one hour and ten minutes.
