Longmont Symphony scratches 'Messiah' performance, but ticket holders can still see a holiday show

People who purchased tickets for the “Messiah” performance and season ticket holders, however, will still have the chance to enjoy a concert on Sunday by pianist Spencer Myer and baritone Mario Diaz-Moresco from New York City.

The Longmont Symphony Orchestra is canceling its performance of Handel’s “Messiah” scheduled for Sunday.

In an email announcing the cancellation, the Symphony stated COVID-related restrictions on gatherings “made it difficult to find a venue and to safely film the performance with our musicians.”

People who purchased tickets for the “Messiah” performance and season ticket holders, however, will still have the chance to enjoy a holiday concert on Sunday.

The Symphony is offering access to a performance by pianist Spencer Myer and baritone Mario Diaz-Moresco from New York City. The performance will include classical selections from Handel and Schubert, as well as holiday favorites, according to the email. The concert will air at 4 p.m. Sunday. Season tickets and those purchased separately for the ‘Messiah’ will be honored for the performance and ticket holders will receive a link to the concert, according to the email.

The cancellation of the holiday performance is just the latest adjustment to the season the Symphony has made in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Symphony this fall scratched its live performances and launched a virtual season,  “(Re)Sounding! 2020 Reimagined.”

“We thank you for your patience and understanding with this change in programming due to the pandemic restrictions,” the Symphony stated in the email.
