Morning Brief: Apparently SVVSD Doesn't Track Teacher Awards

Recently, the Longmont Observer came upon a tweet by a SVVSD teacher who congratulated a colleague on receiving the Superintendent's Excellence Award. This seemed like the perfect story to publish about our school district.

Recently, the Longmont Observer came upon a tweet by a SVVSD teacher who congratulated a colleague on receiving the Superintendent's Excellence Award. This seemed like the perfect story to publish about our school district.

The Longmont Observer contacted SVVSD Executive Director of Communications, Kerri McDermid, with the following questions:

  • Could you tell me what the Superintendent's Award is?
  • What qualifications need to be met in order to receive the award?
  • Who is (Teacher in Twitter Post)? What school does she work for?
  • Does (Teacher in Twitter Post) have a quote that she would like to share about receiving the award?
  • Does the district have a quote they would like to share about giving the award to (Teacher in Twitter Post)?

McDermid replied with, "A number of people across the district receive the Superintendent's Excellence in Education Awards throughout the year. The award recognizes exemplary initiative and accomplishment that advances organizational performance, achievement, well-being, and service to the community in St. Vrain. Awardees are nominated for the recognition."

To which the Longmont Observer replied: "Do you have a list of the awards given to staff this year? I would love to highlight their accomplishments."

McDermid then replied with, "I do not have a list."

The Longmont Observer followed up with, "Do you really not keep a list of things like this within the district or are you saying that you, personally, don't have a list?"

No further communication has been received from McDermid or the school district on the matter.

Update: At 8:15 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, McDermid replied to the last email sent by the Longmont Observer on this matter by saying, "The district does not keep a record."

The Longmont Observer still feels as though it is important to highlight our educators as much as possible. An effort was made to look through all social media outlets to find posts that mentioned SVVSD educators and the awards that they have recently received.

While our initial search was for the Superintendent's Excellence Award, we did come across a few others, however we know we missed many more.

The Longmont Observer wants to congratulate all the educators for any awards they received this year. If you know an educator who received an award this year please submit that information to [email protected]. Below are a list of tweets that we have found so far.
