Intercambio is hosting their 17th Annual La Fiesta World Party on Saturday, September 8.

"This is our biggest event of the year. It is more than just a party, it’s a celebration of community, culture and diversity. This event facilitates connections across nationality, language, and socioeconomic status at a fun and safe environment for the whole family," states Maye Cordero, Intercambio marketing and communications manager.

La Fiesta World Party is also a fundraising event for Intercambio each year. The funds raised "subsidize the cost of English classes for over 1,200 immigrant adults throughout Boulder County," according to the press release.

This year the group hopes to raise over $40,000 to support their efforts to teach immigrants English.

"Immigrants can thrive when they are able to communicate effectively in English," states the Intercambio website. With that in mind, Intercambio offers English and cultural integration classes that focus on employment, the public school system, health care, social services, transportation and commerce.

According to Intercambio, the organization "has served more than 10,000 immigrants in English classes and cultural events with the help of more than 5,000 volunteer teachers," since 2001.

"Our volunteer taught English classes facilitate connections across cultures. We connect people that otherwise would not have the chance to meet. La Fiesta invites the local community to celebrate our different cultures together," says Cordero.
