Second annual Absurd April Fool's Parade put on by Left Hand Artist Group on April 1, 2022, through downtown Longmont. The nonprofit's biggest event of the year is this weekend's Label Show at Left Hand Brewing.

The Left Hand Artist Group Label Show is returning this weekend bigger and better than ever.

“I think we look at it as kind of our coming out party,” said Tony Kindelspire, member of the Left Hand Artist Group board. “It’s been a struggle for us just like it has been for any other organization in the past couple years.”

The first show since 2019, the Label Show is the biggest event of the year for the artist group. Pieces are made with beer labels or cans and auctioned off, with at least half of the sale being donated.

The Left Hand Artist Group, a Longmont group founded in 2013 to connect artists with venues and host events to support local nonprofits, obtained nonprofit status in December, meaning that they will get a share of the funds raised for the first time. Proceeds will also benefit Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement Longmont and the Left Hand Brewing Foundation.

Over the course of five or six shows through the years, Kindelspire said the Left Hand Artist Group has raised over $50,000 including $16,000 in their biggest year.

“We’re all about the community and giving back, really supporting the artists, supporting each other and getting art in the community,” Kindelspire said.

The art pieces are made of leftover beer cans and labels, this year from both Left Hand Brewing and Wibby Brewing. Decorated drum kits, guitars, bicycles and more are just some of the works created at past shows.

“It’s a real variety that people come up with,” Kindelspire said. “I can’t wait to see everything that’s there. It’s always a lot of fun. It never gets old.”

He estimated there would be roughly a few hundred pieces at Saturday’s show.

The show will be 4-9 p.m. Saturday at the Left Hand Brewery Beer Garden and admission is free. The Left Hand Artist Group will be offering beer and food tickets, with $15 beer wristbands for pours of dedicated Left Hand Artist Group beer and $15 food wristbands for food samplings catered by Summit Tacos and Main Street Eatery, or $25 for both.

There will be three separate time closings for silent auctions throughout the night and the evening will end with a live auction of 10 pieces selected by a Left Hand Artist Group committee. Bands Cat Jerky and Parchment Doll will also perform.
