Free Creative Writing Class with Lisa Jones

Calling all who are interested in improving their writing skills! Author Lisa Jones will be leading a free creative writing class at La Vita Bella, in the Renaissance room.

The Don and Shirley Stanosheck Art Donation

The LUH Foundation invites you to view the recently donated art from the Don and Shirley Stanosheck Art Collection. The art will be exhibited in the Art Walkway at Longmont United Hospital through March 30, 2020. Meet artists from the collection as well as local artists exhibiting in the Art Walkway. Beginner Quilting Two,Sampler Quilt Class/Longmont

Beginning Quilting 2

This class is for advanced beginning quilters, who are confident sewing ¼” seam allowances. Learn to make 7 quilt blocks while making new friends! Join quilt artist Janet Fulton for this fun "Learn to Quilt 2" class at Maggie's in Longmont. During five classes, you will learn to make the blocks and borders for the Sampler quilt, found on page 41 of "Start Quilting with Alex Anderson" 3rd Edition. There will be homework. These blocks are standard blocks used for many quilts and will provide strong foundation skills for moving on to more advanced quilting projects.

Learn how to: Pick out a winning combination of fabrics
Learn details regarding thread and needles
Safely and efficiently use quilting and sewing tools
Accurately cut and sew blocks together
Prepare your quilt for quilting
Machine quilt top, batting and backing together
Attach binding and finish the edges of your quilt

Saturday, January 18

Hot Cocoa at the Sanctuary

  • Time: 2-5 p.m.
  • Location: The Good Life Refuge, 13759 N. 95th St

Update: We are expecting a big turnout on Saturday and extended the event to three hours - 2-5pm (previously 2-4). Join us for some Hot Cocoa (Almond-Milk based) on the house and visit with our residents.

We are excited that we have the Migration Taco food truck (plant-based) and Kind Confections (plant-based pastries) onsite with their yummy foods and desserts so no one goes home hungry.

You can bring mouth-sized cut up apples, celery, cucumbers, carrots and lettuce to feed our animals.

We ask for a $5 donation per person or $10 per family.

Please leave your furry-family at home as they wouldn't enjoy being in the car while you are visiting with the animals.

Womxn's March Solidarity Action: Longmont Weekly Vigil

If you can’t make it to the Womxn’s March in Denver, or if you’ve marched in Denver and are back in Longmont by 1:00, stand in support of the marchers and the message:

It’s an election year, and even the most impulsive, irrational incumbent candidate (you know who) is watching public opinion closely. Let him know that starting a war will not get him elected; it will doom his chances!

We will walk the entire cemetery & pick up all the wreaths, then take off the red bow & tag on the back. We will be donating the wreaths to local farms for goats & other animals to snack on!

InterGenerational Philosophy: Civil Discourse

Last quarter, we had a great discussion about how hard it can be to engage in civil discourse. What is it that stands in our way as individuals? As a society? Why is it so hard to listen to opposing points of view and converse in a respectful manner? This winter, join middle and high school students from Grey Havens Philosophy for an interactive conversation on how we can grow as better thinkers and why philosophy brings communities together. Facilitated by Kelly Cowling and Robyn Bosica.

Here's how it works:
Spellers get a number and free beer (wine or cider) to give them courage. They are given a competitor number and they go up in order of their number. Miss a word and you are eliminated. Spellers who make it past round 3 will get an additional free drink reward. Words will be increasingly difficult as the rounds go on until one winner is left standing. Spellers can ask for definitions, language of origin, parts of speech or use in what may be a mildly off-color sentence.

Knife Skills 1: Kitchen Rookie

  • Time: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Make 2020 the year you learn to chop like a pro!

If you prepare most meals using a paring knife and often wonder what all of those extra knives in your block are for, then this is the class for you!

Together we will discuss which knives most experienced home cooks and chefs use daily and why. You will also learn proper knife safety and storage, how and when to sharpen your knives but most importantly what that recipe means when it says chop, dice or mince.

This class is open to all skill levels and will have an abundance of knowledge regardless of your experience. If this class sounds too fundamental for your skill level, please check out our Knife Skills 2 – Kitchen Regular class offered in February!
