Media, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is "a medium of cultivation, conveyance, or expression."

Longmont Public Media wants to cultivate the many voices and talents of Longmont and surrounding areas, to convey those voices to a wide audience through many platforms of media, and to encourage all people to express their voices and talents to their community.

Many people do not know what public access television is. As Longmont Public Media builds its new makerspace for media, many have been confused as to what a media makerspace actually is.

This week, a fellow member of our Longmont Public Media group found this YouTube video about public access television. I want to share it with you as an example of how a community can utilize a media makerspace to share their voices.

Public access television is disappearing across America. We are very fortunate that the City of Longmont still values this resource. We too feel strongly about this opportunity to keep this asset in Longmont as well as making it grow.

We invite you to join us each Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. in the classroom at TinkerMill located at 1840 Deleware Pl. Unit A. These meetings are for the community to have a voice what the new Longmont public access looks like for ourselves and our children.

We realize that it can sound intimidating to join a group that knows something about various forms of media, especially if you feel you don't. You don't need to. Many of our members are just interested in learning and those with knowledge are interested in teaching.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
