Boulder County has expanded eligibility for its COVID-19 care packages to some health care-related businesses.

The county last week announced that small businesses hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic could be eligible for up to $500 worth of personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies and sanitizers, and $500 of to-go food containers through the new program.

Originally the program was only open to restaurants, gyms, nonprofits, hotels/motels and the hospitality industry, and personal services businesses. On Friday, however, the county announced that limited health care services also could apply to receive the care packages. Such health care businesses include those providing acupuncture, athletic training and naturopathic care, along with audiologists and hearing aid providers, chiropractors and speech language pathologists. Massage, occupational and physical therapists also are eligible, while medical, dental, and veterinary service providers are not.

Funding for the project is being provided through the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund, according to a county news release.

Commissioners “recognize the key role small businesses play in our county, including providing employment opportunities, keeping more dollars in our local economy, and strengthening the character and unique identity of our communities,” the release stated.

Business owners who meet eligibility requirements can apply for packages of the materials by visiting www.boco.org/C-19-supplies. There are a limited number of packages available, and they will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Boulder County’s Partners for a Clean Environment will administer the program and a vendor will package and deliver supplies to businesses, according to the news release.
