17-year-old jumps out of moving car to evade police

He was later arrested on five charges.

On Monday evening, a 17-year-old boy jumped from a moving car in an attempt to evade police. He was later arrested by police on five charges.

A Longmont police officer was on routine patrol in the area of Mountain View Drive and Lashley Street when, at approximately 11 p.m., the officer saw a silver minivan traveling westbound along Mountain View Drive. without its lights turned on.

In attempts to pull the vehicle over, the officer flashed overhead emergency lights and then activated the police siren. The vehicle did not yield to the officer’s signals to stop, according to Robin Ericson, the communications and marketing manager at Longmont Police Department.

Instead, as the vehicle reached the end of Keystone Court, the officer observed as the vehicle slowed and the driver’s door of the vehicle opened. While the vehicle was still in drive, a male party jumped from the car and began to run northbound.

The officer located a 15-year-old girl who remained in the vehicle. The girl did not have permission to take the vehicle so police contacted a parent to pick up the minor and vehicle.

No charges were pressed against anyone regarding the vehicle, Ericson said.

However, a routine clearance by police of the two individuals found that the 15-year-old is the protected party in a mandatory protection order in which the 17-year-old is the restrained party in a domestic violence case.

According to Ericson, the male suspect was later located by police and arrested for the following charges: two counts of violation of a protection order, felony vehicular eluding, driving without a valid driver’s license, headlamps required to be illuminated and domestic violence.
