The Boulder County Hazardous Device Response Team was called to Safeway, located at 17th Street and Hover Street this morning because a suspicious package had been left outside the store.
According to Robin Ericson, spokesperson for Longmont Public Safety, the call came in around 10:39 a.m.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers discovered a styrofoam cooler outside the building and called for the Boulder County Hazardous Device Response Team to investigate the package.
A witness to the event said every entrance to the parking lot was blocked by police cars and that employees had been evacuated.
The bomb team used a robot to approach the cooler and soon rendered the object safe after discovering it was filled with only ice, Ericson said.
