Three men were hospitalized after a house explosion in Longmont on Monday night.

According to a press release from Longmont Public Safety, the Longmont Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls of a house explosion around 9 p.m. Monday on the 100 block of Placer Avenue, in the general area of Ninth Avenue and Lashley Street near Clark Centennial Park.

The garage was fully engulfed in flames when Longmont fire and police personnel arrived, the release said. An adjacent home was also damaged in the explosion and subsequent fire.

Two men were able to escape the blast, and they removed a third man from the garage before emergency services arrived. One man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, while the other two were transported by private vehicle.

Police said the cause of the explosion is under investigation. Longmont detectives, fire investigators and the Boulder County Hazardous Device Response Team Bomb Squad will be on the property Tuesday, the release added.
