Car crash kills pedestrian in Longmont

An 84-year-old man died Tuesday after being hit by a car.

Longmont police responded to the auto versus pedestrian crash around 9 a.m. Tuesday at Third Avenue and Pratt Street, public safety spokesperson Robin Ericson said.

The initial investigation found that a 31-year-old man was driving eastbound on Third Avenue approaching Pratt Street when he hit the 84-year-old man crossing northbound across Third in a designated unmarked crosswalk. The 84-year-old later died as a result of his injuries.

Ericson added that speed, drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the collision. The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
