An inmate at the Boulder County Jail was found dead in his cell yesterday afternoon.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office the man — whose name has not been released while officials contact his family — appeared to have hung himself in his cell.

The 39-year-old man was facing multiple charges, including first-degree trespass.

The man had been alone in his cell for 20 minutes before staff found him. The staff immediately rendered life-saving measures for more than 30 minutes. The measures included CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

“The inmate had given no prior indications that he was despondent or had suicidal ideations and was therefore not on suicide protocol,” according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office news release.

An investigation by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office and investigators from the Sheriff’s Office is underway although no foul play is suspected, according to the news release.
