Nearly a month ago, first responders were called to a fire in the Bear Canyon Trail area near the NCAR facility. Fire investigators now believe the fire was caused by a human and are searching to identify a suspect.
Originally, fire crews believed the NCAR fire to have started in incorporated Boulder County. It was late into the investigation when fire investigators learned the fire actually began within less than 100 feet into the boundaries of the city of Boulder. Since Boulder County investigators were deep in the investigation, they continued pursuing the case.
Investigators reviewed over 20 tips made by the public, examined video and photos and spoke to several witnesses to the fire. At this time, investigators say they have exhausted all leads, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
They determined the fire was caused by a human, however, they currently do not have a suspect identified. Investigators are asking for further help from the public to identify the person suspected of causing the fire.
